Make the tracker work for you

Track actions you can control—“walk for ten minutes” is clearer than “be healthier.” Use a dot, check, or color in each square. Review the pattern at the end of the month with curiosity, then adjust the environment or the habit itself.

Make it observable

“Read 10 pages” is easier to mark than “read more.”

Keep the minimum small

A version that works on difficult days is easier to repeat.

Track fewer things

Eight rows are available; using three well is completely valid.

Review the pattern

Look for environmental clues instead of judging an imperfect streak.

Checks, dots, or numbers?

Use a check when completion is binary, a dot when you want a low-pressure mark, or a small number when quantity matters. Avoid mixing systems within one row, because consistency makes the pattern easier to read.

Examples of trackable habits

Vague intentionTrackable version
Exercise moreWalk for at least 10 minutes
Read regularlyRead 10 pages
Stay organizedReset the desk before finishing work
Sleep betterPut the phone outside the bedroom by 10:30

What if you miss a day?

Leave the square empty and continue with the next opportunity. A tracker is evidence, not a scorecard. If the same day or situation is repeatedly difficult, change the cue, the time, or the minimum instead of hiding the pattern.

What to write under “What helped”

Note the conditions that made action easier: preparing clothes the night before, keeping medication visible, scheduling with a friend, or reducing the minimum. The next-month box is for one adjustment, not a complete reinvention.

Should every habit be daily?

No. For a three-times-per-week habit, mark only the days you complete it and evaluate the weekly total.

Do I need to fill all eight rows?

No. A small set of meaningful habits is usually easier to review and sustain.
